About Bel's Art Studio
I create all my jewelry in my home-based studio in Corpus Christi, Texas. I use a variety of tools and materials to help me create my miniature mosaics including pendants, earrings, bracelets, and rings. Because each piece is handcrafted, there may be imperfections, which really makes each piece unique and truly one-of-a-kind. I do not mass produce my mosaics and will not repeat a design unless commissioned.
I curate my materials from a variety of sources and distributors from across the nation and the world. I am always looking for unusual bezel shapes and sizes as well as materials to create either an abstract design or a vignette. Materials include micro ceramic tiles, glass beads of all sizes, Czech glass beads, sterling silver pieces, stained glass, Italian millefiori just to name a few. I do work with silver, gold and copper plated, pewter plated in .999 fine silver.
The "grout" is an epoxy clay, which I inlay in the components and then add materials mentioned above to create a distinct design or vignette. I have about 20 minutes work with the clay before it begin to harden. Since time is limited, I usually arrange the design before setting it clay. Once set, it takes 24 hours for the clay to cure.
Inspirations for my designs and collections come from my Mexican American heritage with its rich, vibrant colors, as well as being a native of the great state of Texas. I’m also inspired by nature and art.
